Most of us long to be in a tight-knit group of people. Yet, our experiences often fall short.
Perhaps you would be surprised that such relationships can be found in a church family! The first church in history had such relationships:
“And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul” -Acts 4:32 (NASB)
How did they develop such close relationships? Well, it started with their personal faith. And this faith then drew them into community:
Acts 2-
“42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
-The folks in the first church devoted themselves to living out their faith with others.
“44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.”
-They were committed to each other. They spent their time together!
“45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.”
-They served each other. They gave and helped one another in need.
“46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,”
-They met every day! Can you imagine meeting with a church every day? They did!
What drove them together, was their common faith in their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What kept them together was a commitment to living out their faith with one another.
And because of this, they were of one heart and soul.
If you don’t currently have a local church family, we invite you to visit Glen Arbor Community Church on Sundays @ 10 am at 204 Church Street in West Chicago, IL.
As imperfect as we are, we strive to be a committed family of faith of one heart and soul!
